Capturing the details of your day is a great way to set the mood of your day and of your finished gallery. This is the time to get creative and to really showcase the feel and the vibe of your wedding and your love story through these small details. From the pretty flat lays to family heirlooms attached to your bouquet, these are all important elements to make sure we showcase in your photos. So, if you’re wondering what to include in your detail photos, you’ve come to the right place.
These items are so important to have ready the morning of and I would even recommend setting them aside in their own box the night before so that it’s even easier to grab and know everything is in one place the morning of.
Here’s what to include in your wedding details photos!
Your invitations are the first glimpse of your wedding day and deserve to have their own spotlight!
PRO TIP: A budget friendly tip, buy one special invitation suite just for your flat lay photos, this way you can save money on the invitations for the guests, but get something super custom and the suite of your dreams for your photos!
Your rings of course are probably one of the most important details of the day. Make sure to polish those pretty rings off and get them ready to sparkle in photos. Bonus if you have a cute ring box for them to sit in, but if not, I’ve got you covered.
I love getting to lay the jewelry in places on the flat lay that give it some movement and help show the feminine touch in those details. Also if you have any special jewelry pieces from family members, make sure to note that and add them in!
The bridal bouquet is so stunning and can be showcased in a number of different ways in your details. One of my favorite ways is to capture your bouquet with your dress.
PRO TIP: Ask your florist for extra blooms, greenery and some petals for your flat lay photos. This really elevates your flat lays and allows your full color scheme to be incorporated as well as the beautiful florals that you’ve chosen.
Whether you’re rocking Jimmy Choos or custom vans, we love to incorporate your shoes that complete your wedding look in your details in some way. But always make sure the shoes you wear on your wedding are comfortable to you! After all you will be walking around in them for at least 4-5 hours. Make sure to break them in beforehand and bring a pair of shoes to change into for the reception if you’d rather dance in something more comfortable!
Perfume is another cute item that I love to photograph with the shoes and flowers, it’s a way to incorporate a signature fragrance. It’s a good idea to buy something special that you absolutely love, this way every time you use it you’ll be reminded of all your wonderful wedding day memories.
Vow books are so sweet to incorporate if you are doing personal ones and it is so easy to get cute ones on etsy!
Finally, any family heirlooms are so sweet to add into your flat lay photos. This way you can always commemorate your grandmother’s locket, or moms special pearl earrings. It is a fun way to incorporate family into your special moments.
The beginning detail photos of your day are something so sweet and fun to create! They also really allow your photographer to get immersed into your day and get the creative juices flowing to capture all of your love!

“We don’t even know where to begin in our review of Sam for our engagement and wedding photography. She is absolutely phenomenal – hands down our favorite wedding vendor. Her sweet and bubbly personality made it easy for us to be ourselves. This in combination with her special ability to capture the perfect, emotion-filled moment makes her worth every penny. She responses prompting to emails and delivered both of our “sneak peeks” in record time. We received more wedding photos back than we could ever dream of, each snapshotting a precious moment we will now never forget. If you want a talented, dedicated and passionate photographer – choose Sam.” -DALY + TYLER
